LOS ÁNGELES AZULES RECEIVE THE MUSICAL EXCELLENCE AWARD AT THE 2024 LATIN GRAMMYS
Miami, FL (November 11, 2024) – Los Ángeles Azules were honored with the Musical Excellence Award as part of the annual Special Awards presented by The Latin Recording Academy. The tribute took place during a private event on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in Miami, marking the beginning of Latin Grammy Week. This award recognizes performers who have made outstanding artistic contributions to Latin music and their communities throughout their careers.
Excited and emotional, Los Ángeles Azules took the stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center to express their gratitude for the award:
“Good evening, everyone! We are thrilled and deeply moved to receive this Musical Excellence Award. Thank you to everyone at The Latin Recording Academy for this recognition that greatly honors us and represents a part of our biggest dreams fulfilled in our musical journey of over 40 years,” said Dr. Elías Mejía.
“But we haven’t done this alone,” the band’s founder continued. “We want to thank our families for standing by us through thick and thin and for always supporting us to move forward. A part of this award is for you, too! Thank you!”
Lupita Mejía Avante added: “Good evening, everyone! We are delighted to receive this award! Thanks to every person who has collaborated with us over the years—thank you to our managers, our record labels, and to OCESA Seitrack, who currently make a tremendous effort to ensure our songs cross borders. We are also grateful to every artist who has contributed their talent to this project and who has enjoyed cumbia as much as we have. Together, we’ve built a great team. This is for you! Thank you all!” concluded Lupita.
Finally, Jorge Mejía Avante took the microphone to say: “Good evening! It’s such a joy to share this incredible moment with you tonight. This award also belongs to all our fans who have grown up with us, danced, sung, dreamed, and even fallen in love to our romantic cumbia. And finally, thank you all for allowing a piece of our lives to enter your hearts through our music.”
Of course, the iconic phrase, “From Iztapalapa to the world… We are Los Ángeles Azules!” echoed throughout the venue, met with a standing ovation.
